This Good Practice Guide (GPG) brings together a series of conceptual and procedural recommendations for induced abortion care starting at 20 weeks of pregnancy. It compiles existing scientific evidence, the experience of groups of health professionals from different Latin American countries working in the public and private sectors, as well as the experience of abortion counselors who work with professionals within institutions. It was developed based on exchanges held at an in-person regional meeting in Bogotá in April 2024. Thirty-two specialists from different disciplines from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Peru participated in this meeting. The main objective of this GPG is to offer guidance to health teams and professionals who provide safe abortion care starting at 20 weeks and to provide tools so they can better respond to the expectations and needs of those who request it and those who assist them.
